CUTS LOOSE ON THE
COURT

The pickleball-loving pop star tells us all about his passion for playing.

KENNY LOGGINS

The singer-songwriter who once urged everybody to “cut loose—footloose” is cutting loose himself these days by playing pickleball, which he got hooked on four years ago during a trip to Mexico.

“I’ll pretty much put anything else on hold to get a couple games in,” he says. “It gets the heart rate up, really works the reflexes, and gives me a lot of adrenaline.”

After 50 years of touring, Loggins has written a new memoir out this month, Still Alright. “As I interviewed old friends, road managers, and musicians, I really tried to dig in and get to the truth,” he says. “There’s a lot of funny stories—and the undercurrent of my own spirituality connected to my music, my career, and my art.”

Back home in Montecito, California, Loggins plays pickleball two or three times a week, often with his partner, Lisa, at a friend’s court or on municipal courts nearby. “Lisa is a really good player. The two of us can be a formidable team…. Everybody’s in it to win it and still have fun.”
